Finding Jesus Among Our Neighbors
Living Matthew 25 at First Love Church
One of the most powerful teachings Jesus ever gave is found in Matthew 25.
In this passage, Jesus paints a picture of God's Kingdom and reveals something startling about where we can find him.
He says:
"I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me."
The people listening are confused. They ask, "Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger?"
And Jesus answers:"When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me."
What an extraordinary vision.
Jesus does not simply tell us to help vulnerable people. He identifies himself with them. The hungry person is not a project to be managed. The struggling neighbor is not an inconvenience to avoid. The stranger is not someone to fear. According to Jesus, when we offer food, compassion, dignity, and welcome to those who are vulnerable, we are serving Christ himself.
Seeing Christ in Our Community
At First Love Church, we take these words seriously.
For the past twenty-six years, our congregation has been feeding our neighbors through practical acts of love and compassion. Long before outreach became a popular church strategy, faithful members of this beloved community were showing up with groceries, meals, encouragement, and care.
Today, that commitment continues.
Every month, we gather to provide food and support to our neighbors in need. We also join community feeding efforts on Thursdays, partnering with others who share the vision of caring for our city.
We do this because we believe Matthew 25 is more than a scripture to admire.
It is a way of life.
Love Made Visible
The mission of the church is not only to gather on Sundays. The mission of the church is to embody the love of Christ in the world.
Every bag of groceries offered.
Every meal shared.
Every conversation filled with dignity and respect.
Every act of kindness toward someone who is struggling.
These are sacred moments.
They are opportunities to encounter Jesus in our neighbors.
At First Love Church, we believe faith becomes most beautiful when it becomes tangible.
Love is not simply something we believe. Love is something we practice.
Join the Beloved Community
There are many ways to be part of what God is doing through First Love Church. Whether you are looking for a church home, searching for meaningful ways to serve your community, or longing to put your faith into action, we invite you to join us.
You do not need to have everything figured out.
You do not need perfect theology.
You simply need a willingness to follow Jesus in the way of love.
Together, we are learning to see Christ in the faces of our most vulnerable neighbors.
Together, we are building a beloved community where everyone is welcome.
Together, we are discovering that when we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, care for the sick, and serve those in need, we are encountering Jesus himself.
If that sounds like the kind of church you have been looking for, we would love to meet you.
Come worship with us. Come serve with us. Come be part of a community that is learning to love like Jesus.
Because at First Love Church, love is not just something we talk about.
It is the way we live.
